In the area of Sindi was the Mesolithic settlement, dating from around 8500 BC - the oldest known settlement in Estonia. Sindi was created in 1833 around a textile factory, and for two centuries life in the town was greatly influenced by the textile industry and the factory, which still has an impact on the economy and ecology of the town.
