Knin is a historical town in the Sibenik-Knin county of Croatia, located 60 km northeast of Sibenik, near the source of the river Krka in the Dalmatian hinterland, on the railroad Zagreb–Split. Well preserved Knin fort sits on top of the Spas hills and overlooks the town. The medieval fortress dates from the 10th century but the present fort is from 18th century. This is one of the largest fortification buildings in Dalmatia and there are great views from it over the town and surrounding countryside.
