Lasko was first mentioned in writing in 1227 and is known to be one of the oldest boroughs on Slovene soil. Beside, it used to be the headquarters of one of Slovene oldest prehistoric parishes. The borough was also the administrative seats of powerful Lords of Prin-cipality with all the rights of a borough. Unfortunately, Lasko lost its importance when the possession of Celje came into the Hapsburgs' estate to awaken again with the southern railway, the prosperity of coal-mining and beer-brewing as the result as well as those times already noted thermal spas in Rimske Toplice and Lasko. Lasko turned to a town at its 700 anniversary in 1927 to start making a quick progress as a crafts, commercial, industrial and tourist town. Now it is the centre of the community which prides itself of natural beauties, rich cultural and historical heritage and vivacious and variegated cultural, sports and tourist happening.
