The Municipality of Logatec is situated at the junction of the Julian Alps and the Dinaric Alps only 30 kilometers from Ljubljana. Its lowest area is Planinsko polje, and its highest point the Srnjak summit in the Hrusica mountain range. The dominant landscape feature is the extensive forest that covers high karst plateaus.
The identity and development of the municipality have been dictated by its natural resources, its geography, and its strategic location as a crossroads and border region in the past. The rich forests provided the means to develop wood-based crafts such as wheel making, barrel making, wagon building, and carpentry as well as the lumber and paper industries. Along with forestry and the wood industry, agriculture and small manufacturing today play an important role in the economy of the municipality. The Municipality of Logatec provides the residents of twenty settlements with primary education, health and social services, and facilities for political, cultural, social, and sports activities.
