Karlovacka zupanija (Karlovac county) is a county in central Croatia, with the administrative center in Karlovac. Karlovac, the seat of the county, is the city on four rivers. It was established in 1579 as a typical Renaissance town with fortresses in the shape of a six sided star. In the 18th and 19th centuries, this was an important trading town and from the end of 19th century, Karlovac developed into an administrative and industrial centre.
